The Chris Carter Memorial Cup matches took place on 19/5/13 at the White Horse Leisure Centre in Abingdon. Spartans were in the top 8 teams from the group stage played on 12/5/13 went through to the quarter finals on 19/5/13 to play in the placing matches.
The tournament format worked well, and it was good to see teams from the north and south of the OKA playing against each other. There was a minute of silence to remember Chris Carter before both finals, and this was impeccably observed.
Spartans played well and won both the quarter and semi finals to gain a place in the final against the favourites to win the Cup, Basingstoke Bulls. The final was a tense match with the final score 8-8, which is the same score as in the Group Stage a week earlier when Spartans and Basingstoke Bulls clashed. The eventual winner, Basingstoke Bulls, was decided by sudden death penalties.
The final positions are as follows…
- Basingstoke Bulls
- Southampton Spartans
- Reading Knights
- Didcot Dragons 1
- Oxford University
- Abingdon 1
- Oxford Isis 1
- Oxford Isis 2
